The processing time for the recognition of vocational qualifications or academic degrees in Germany varies depending on the recognition authority and the profession. On average, the processing times are as follows: IHK FOSA: 3–5 months HWK: 2–4 months ZAB: 2–3 months DAB: 2–3 months Teaching and healthcare professions: Approximately 8–10 months Please note that there is no fixed processing time. The duration may vary depending on the workload of the recognition authority, the efficiency of the case handling, and the federal state (Bundesland) where the application is processed. Without the recognition of your vocational qualification or academic degree, you generally cannot work in Germany. Exceptions apply only to a few university degrees and certain professions.
According to the current regulations (as of 2026), a foreign worker who comes to Germany for employment and is 45 years of age or older must have a significantly higher gross salary stated in their employment contract than younger workers. For example, while a person under the age of 45 may be employed with a gross monthly salary of €2,600, a person aged 45 or older must have a minimum gross monthly salary of €4.647 specified in the employment contract.
To work in Germany, you should follow these three steps: Obtain recognition of your university degree or vocational qualification in Germany. Learn German according to your profession or qualification. The minimum recommended level is A2. Many professions require B1, while more specialized or advanced professions generally require B2. Find a job in Germany that matches your profession or qualification. However, finding a job without recognized qualifications and sufficient German language skills is generally very difficult.
No. Germany generally does not recognize diplomas from the Turkish Open High School (Açık Öğretim Lisesi) for direct admission to universities.
